Question:
FAQ: Product - Model 20 and Model 25 Shaft Seal History

Answer:
The original Model 20 seal arrangement used a Quad Ring and Teflon back up ring for the pressure seal and a mechanical seal installed in the reverse direction as a “wiper” to keep external contamination away from the sealing area of the shaft. These seals were installed in a seal carrier that bolted to the front housing of the reducer. There was also an O ring that fit in an groove on the seal carrier that sealed the static interface between the seal carrier and the front housing of the reducer.

The Quad Ring is Part #201170 (1 ea)
The Teflon Back Up ring is Part #201190 (1 ea)
The Wiper/Seal was Part #201500 (1 ea) not available and replaced fit and function by Part #251100
Two O rings to seal the body sections Part # 201010
This is seal kit SK20-4

When we brought out the Model 25 we did away with the Quad Ring shaft seal and Teflon back up ring and went to a mechanical type of shaft seal. These seals were tested by us at 100 PSI in the case of a reducer and went over 10,000,000 cycles without failure or significant shaft wear. We installed the same seal model in a seal carrier in two places, one seal facing inward to seal the gearbox and the second facing outward to act as a wiper. The pilot of the seal carrier had to be made larger to fit the larger opening in the reducer housing caused by the larger shaft bearings. There was also an O ring seal in a groove around this pilot area.

The mechanical seals are Part # 251100 (2 ea)
The O Ring is Part #251320 (1 ea)
Two O rings to seal the body sections Part # 201010
This is seal kit SK25-1

When we introduced the Model 25 we also came out with a 20U seal kit that could be used to update existing Model 20 reducers to the Model 25 Seals. This kit requires a new seal carrier that has a pilot diameter that fits into the Model 20 and seal pockets that fit the new seals. There is also an O ring seal to seal between the pilot and the housing.

The mechanical seals are Part #251100 (2 ea)
The O Ring is Part #200690 (1 ea)
The seal carrier is Part #200660
Two O rings to seal the body sections Part # 201010
This is seal kit SK20U
